Hi everyone! I haven't been here in a while, which is a CRIME! (Hence my Ezra in jail icon :D). I absolutely LOVE the new layout, it's beautiful!

For the last little while, I've been playing in a small panfandom RP and I've been hoping that someone from Mag7 would join. I almost applied as Ezra, originally, but ended up joining as Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood) instead :) It occurred to me that maybe nobody in Mag7 fandom KNEW about our game (it's not huge like some of them, which is nice) so I thought I'd just drop a line here about it in the hopes that we'll get at least one or two 'cowboys' into the mix (don't tell Larabee that I phrased it that way!!).

Here is the premise of the game:

Under the cut, in case you're not interested... )

I know there are a lot of excellent Mag7 fanfic writers at this comm, so if you'd like to, basically, write with a bunch of other enthusiastic writers from many fandoms, please come check the place out. I'm not a mod over there or anything, I just love Mag7 and would love to see some talented people play some of those characters in the game.

I apologize aforehand for the nature of this post, as it only loosely relates to The Magnificent Seven.

In World War 2, Kilroy was made famous through the sneaky work of many soldiers, who would scrawl "Kilroy Was Here" along with the occasional amusing doodle on various surfaces, and claim the mark had been there before they arrived. I'm not sure if there ever was an actual Kilroy (though five minutes research could probably answer that) but he is pretty much well known by most folk.

....I think.

We of the Magnificent Seven fandom have our own "Kilroy Was Here", and I am endevoring to find the origin.

How many here have read a fanfic featuring Ezra Standish in which the moniker Chaucer, along with the intelligence and fierce loyalty, given to his horse was credited to Kristen? I imagine quite a few, since some of the best work out there has taken up this fanon idea of the chestnut's name and nature. But while we all credit this Kristen for the brilliant idea, how many of us actually know who she is, or even where the idea came from?

After hours of extensive searching, I have found many credited story notes and fanfics pointing the finger to Kristen as the genius behind the name, but I have not found a single shred of information that suggests Kristen even exists in the online world.

It is possible she was a writer for the show of which I have no knowledge (my sources away from the internet are limited to 0), or a novel writer. But I would think there would be evidence, if she was. So, is she real? Perhaps a writer whose works have all but vanished from public eye, due to unfortunate circumstances? Or, like Kilroy, has Kristen just become a name that everyone knows, and whom everyone credits, but who has no tangible form?

....My essay lament complete, I would like to ask fans for their help in answering these questions. Who is Kristen? Where, if anywhere, does her work exist? And if no work exists, where can the origin of Chaucer be found?

Thanks for your assistance. Mods, feel free to delete if inappropriate.

I'm a newish Magnificent Seven fan, and would really like to start reading some of the fic this fandom has to offer. If anyone has any recs they'd like to share, I'd be much obliged :) Either Gen or Het, or Hettish Gen -- crossovers are cool too! That's how I got into the fandom initially; via [livejournal.com profile] strangevisitor7's SPN/M7 stories.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi all,

I'm new to this community. Figured I'd ask here to see if anyone new the fic that I read a while back but can't remember the title of. I think I read it on the Blackraptor Mag7 Fic page but am not sure. Here is what I remember of the fic (it might have been a short series of fics):

This is a modern day AU (might be ATF later in the story). Starts off with Vin as a child with his mother in Texas. His mother takes Vin and runs from her abusive boyfriend from one side of Texas to the other side of Texas. They live in a motel. One day Vin's mother's boyfriend finds them and comes to the motel. Vin's mother tells Vin to go to the park across the street and not to come back until she comes to get him. He sits there all day and into the night and his mother never comes. The police and EMS are called to the motel and find her body. For whatever reason, one of the police officers finds Vin in the park and links him to the woman in the motel room. His mother had been killed by the boyfriend. The police officer is married and takes Vin home with him. The police officer and wife are foster parents and take Vin in for a while. Vin starts going to school while living with them and they find out he has dislexia and doesn't like school. The officer helps Vin a lot with his studies and is very good at dealing with Vin. Then Vin's grandfather is found and comes to take Vin. Vin goes with his grandfather to Colorado and his grandfather is not as understanding about Vin's difficulties in school. However, he does his best to raise Vin. The grandfather dies when Vin is in middle school. Vin gets put into the foster care system in Colorado and runs away from it after a while. Lives on the streets of Denver (Purgatorio). Things happen and a social worker (Nettie) is fond of Vin but can't take him. Vin goes to HS graduation and happens to run into the police officer and his wife again at the graduation. The police officer & wife had moved to Colorado and were there because they'd seen Vin's name in the paper listed in the graduates. Vin goes off to the army. Then the next part of the story (or series) I can remember, is after the officer dies but his widow still has foster kids. Child services takes to foster kids from her on the day of the funeral. Vin is there when it happens, trying to comfort the widow. Vin is with ATF Team 7 in this part of the story. Vin & Team 7 help to get the kids back for the widow (name starts with B but can't remember what it is).

Sorry for being so long winded. Hope someone knows where to find it.

Hope everyone had a pleasant New Year's!

Edit (Jan 5 2007): Found a story that was similar but doesn't have the police officer taking Vin home for fostering. I don't know if I mixed up two different stories or what. The story that I found is titled "Surpises" by Kim over at Blackraptor (http://www.blackraptor.net/m7fic4/surprises.htm). I know that there is a set of stories that follows Vin from childhood to his time as an ATF agent with Team 7, I just have yet to find it.
