Was going to pick 'Other' and then put Chris/Vin (cause, they'd be so embarrised, but so obviously do well together it'd be cute). But then, I saw Vin/Nettie, and if that aint cute I don't know what is.

I picked Vin/Nettie, too. It actually makes a lot of sense. I wouldn't be surprised if Nettie was the one to ask VIN to be her escort. She impresses me as being that kind of woman.

Oh, no, I feel another plot bunny being hatched....

(And no, that's not a mixed metaphore around my house. It's an old joke that we've been tormenting my sister with for decades, after the day she saw something break out of a tangle of grass and shouted "It's a rabbit!" It was a chicken jumping off of her nest, which we found full of eggs. And this happened on Easter, of course. So ever since if we've wanted to tick her off we talk about clucking rabbits that lay eggs.)

Anyway--in the situation above, wouldn't Vin go to Mrs. Travis first? Well, unless she's out of town, or so distracted with preparing for the charity ball that she doesn't have a lot of time to spare, and being as considerate as Vin is he would look for help elsewhere. Hmmm...Ezra might make a good choice, a certain purple gown we all recall fondly notwithstanding.

wouldn't Vin go to Mrs. Travis first? Probably, which is why the bunny needs to find a distraction for her. I mean, think of the joy of Our Heroes in a Ladies Fashion Emporium (though Buck might be right at home there, and Ezra would manage to look it, both Vin and JD would be as adorably out of place as buffalo at a tea party, and Chris would simply terrify the genteel assistant into a two-hour swoon...)

I voted for JD & Casey (they are cute, there's no two ways about it) but then rethought Vin & Nettie - they really would be rather adorable on the dance floor (she'd ask him, he'd never be able to say no to her, would he? and the others would never DARE tease him while Nettie was in hearing, but afterwards,... oh yes, AFTERwards...)

And I can see little Olivia (from Safecracker) talking Ezra into it over a game of cards...

Well, we know from "Wagon Train" that Vin CAN dance, when properly motivated--and you're right, he'd never be able to turn Nettie down.

Oh, I like the idea of Olivia being there with Ezra. Of course Buck would have to keep a close eye on his pocketwatch with her around....

And you just know that JD would do something stupid and Casey would wind up punching him or something by the end of the night. And she'd be there in a dress, which she hopefully wouldn't trip over.

I can see JD looking at her all cow-eyed when he sees her in a pretty new calico party dress, then while trying not to show it manages to say or do something to rile Casey up, so she goes storming off and ends up dancing with...oh, maybe Chris? That would be a shocker to all the onlookers...::grin::

Two great minds in the same gutter, m'dear. I really was thinking of finding some way to do a full blown story out of this with participation from all of us. You obviously were thinking along the same lines, but I like your solution better than anything I was coming up with (not much, believe me.)

Is there a community here that's dedicated to Mag7 fan fiction writing? Not in posting the final story, but working in a kind of collective to facilitate the process? A writer's group, maybe one that's friends-locked and you can only join with a moderator's permission, so that people are free to express ideas without risk of having them ridiculed or ripped off. A lot of us know that writing is a load of fun, but it can also be lonely, and getting ideas about a work in progress (separate from having a beta reader, but in throwing around ideas even before you type a word) can be difficult. Maybe we need something like that around here. Any thoughts?

Ooo, I've never started a community before. This might be interesting. Let me think about this and clarify the idea a little better in my brain what it should be about. Personally I could use a cure for writer's block, and having a place to talk where people understand what you're trying to do must be an asset.
