Back and WOW!

Hi everyone! I just got back from two weeks in Mexico. I couldn't find Purgatorio, but that's probably for the best ;) I have SOOOO much Mag7-y goodness to catch up on. THREE episode reviews from sara-merry. I *love* those! Vendetta is one of my favourites, so I really can't wait to read that one. Looks like there's some art and fic as well. Good thing I don't have to go back to work tomorrow! Thanks for posting so much excellent stuff to come back to, everyone!

I do have some pictures! But my fiance has to put them on disc and send them to me from England, so it'll be a couple of weeks before they're in my hands. I'll certainly post some though! Thanks for asking!

I've a favour to ask you... You know how Ezra throws in a little French now and again into his speech... could you translate? I'm referring to Achilles and Obsession. Being an ardent fan, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Sure! I know in Achilles he says "Ah, Mr Tanner - a votre sante (pronounced san-TAY but my keyboard doesn't have the accented e)" Which mean "to your health". I've only seen Obsession once, when I got my DVDs because I always missed it on TV. I'll go check it and see what he says and then let you know.

You caught me off-guard! How did you know I speak French? :)

Well, I performed the arduous and daunting task of watching all the Ezra bits in Obsession until I found it. Hee! At the card game with the "doctor" he says "Cherchez la femme", which means "Look for the woman".

Don't know if this is me stereotyping but I was under the impression that all Canadians were bilingual with English and French. Your LJ profile says you're from Canada.

OOH! Okay :) Everyone here *takes* French at school. Not everyone remembers it later! I actually took it longer than required by law and did immersion and stuff, so I do actually speak it. I thought maybe I had said something in passing, because I was a language major at Uni as well. I also speak German and Russian.

And I was glad to do the translating, thanks for asking!!

Woot! A polyglot! You remind me of two former colleagues of mine who were multilingual. One of them spoke and could read over 13 languages... admittedly he was a linguist and did research in Indigenous Australian languages at one stage. His wife was Italian (Sardinian) and they spoke to each other in French. I think he spoke Sardinian too.

I'm the grateful one... It's been bugging me for some time, not knowing what he said. My husband who did some French in high school was no help.

When I did my Masters degree at one of the local Unis, the English department hired a Canadian lecturer and he showed me his PhD and mentioned that he had to write his summary in both French and English. I think he was from McGill. This is probably where I got that whole bilingual idea from.

You know, Ezra intrigues me more and more. I wondered if he did go to University. I know a lot of fanfic writers sort of make him out to be very literary inclined. He certainly sounds very well-educated.

McGill would probably require it. It's in Montreal. Montreal is a very bilingual city. And anyway, you weren't wrong! I do speak French :)

Ezra does seem highly educated, but I wonder if he's self-taught to a certain degree, to sound more educated than he actually is. He is seen reading in the show, though Josiah and Chris are too. Vin mentions that Ezra has particularly good penmanship. It makes you wonder if it's him, or part of his carefully constructed facade.
