Another New Voice
Mar. 24th, 2005 04:05 amHi.
It just occured to me that there might be other people out there who love the Mag7 series as much as I always have, and what do you know? Here you are.
A quick introduction--my name is Kristeen, but I prefer Kris if that's not taken. I'm almost undoubtedly older than anyone else here at 48 years, but years are only a number. I can get a crush harder than anything any teenager has ever seen. I live in Southern California, in a suburb of Los Angeles called Torrance, a small city full of shopping malls and too danged many real estate brokers. I live at home with my almost-90-year-old father and my older sister. Don't see much of Dad--he spends most of his time with his fiancee. (Talk about being optimistic.)
And I just spent over seven months in the hospital recovering from some major malfunctions of the almost-carcass here. (Last October they told my sister to "be prepared" and asked me if I wanted heroic measures. That made me mad, and I began to recover almost immediately. Amazing what the mind can do.) So if I sometimes appear a little behind the times you can remember that I was living in a virtual cave for the better part of a year.
Better now, but can't walk yet. Progress being made there--to be continued.
Now, as for Mag7 (excellent abbreviation there.) I always loved the original movie (the Western, not the Samurai flick, although I've seen that too.) I was curious when I heard about the series, but when I found out it was starring Michael "the guy with the eyes" Biehn I was hooked. Then I found out about Ron "looks better in Vincent makeup but has a voice that can melt butter" Perlman as well, and that cemented my loyalties even before I saw the show. And then--WOW. What a feast of masculine beauty they laid before us all! Once I picked myself off the floor and began to actually watch the pilot, I got a huge kick out of the story adapted from the original, as well as the quick outlines of each character, making them instantly distinct and interesting. What do you know--good TV and all the things that make life worth living. Gorgeous men, lovely landscape, horses....
(I've been a little horse crazy...make that very horse crazy since I was a kid, so if I occasionally mention Chris's fine black or Buck's personable grey, forgive me. Horses make me almost as weak in the knees as Michael Biehn.)
I noticed Vin right away. Love the character and his background, really love looking at him. Yummy.
Ezra makes me laugh. They combined at characteristics of at least three of the original Seven in his portrayal. Including Robert Vaughn's character, in fact. I love the fact that they brought him aboard as a recurring character. I've always loved these little symmetrical loops.
I get a big kick out of the relationship between J.D. and Buck, the Abbot and Costello of the Old West. Buck makes my ovaries jump too, as the saying goes--I don't normally go for facial hair, but his moustache can tickle my lips anytime.
How I do go on--better shut up now before I've left nothing else to talk about. One question--I have been reading that some of you write fanfic. Where can I find it to read it?

Date: 2005-03-24 01:59 pm (UTC)Are you watching the series on Showtime? I ...uh... hmmm. I thought I had something more to say, but I just woke up. My brain isn't quite working yet, and I cannot go into chat mode. :\ Anyway, it's very nice to meet you, per se.
I can get a crush harder than anything any teenager has ever seen.
Do not disparage the ability of the teenager to mindlessly crush, or, in fandomspeak, fangirl. I'm 21, but I fangirl over things sooo hard, it's not even funny. And you like Michael? What good taste. :) He's definitely the reason I started to watch this show in the first place.
Anyway, I'm sorry my post doesn't have more (or any) useful information, but... hi! And I hope your health continues to improve quickly!
Oooo, fangirl....
Date: 2005-03-24 02:24 pm (UTC)I've been catching up on Mag7 on Showtime. I set my DVR to pick them up after I discovered they were on, and I recently bought a VHS copy of the pilot through Amazon.com--it's out of print but various vendors who have it can be reached by way of Amazon.
I also left my Email address on Amazon to have them alert me if and when the series becomes available on DVD. By doing so it's also something of a "vote," as Amazon does let the people who own the property know that they have X number of people demanding the release. So it might be a good idea for any of you who want the show on DVD to go look it up on Amazon and leave your Email addy. (They won't use it for nefarious purposes--I trust them to keep my privacy intact.)

Fanfiction for Magnificent 7
Date: 2005-03-24 02:49 pm (UTC)That archive does not contain the adult stories. Some of them are listed as adult, but that takes you to a page that says you must provide an age statement in order to get the URL for the adult M7 site(s). One of the actors in the series did not like the fact that NC-17 rated fiction was available so easily to minors. (I don't know which one, or if he completely disapproved of NC-17 fiction and/or slash in general.) I will not post those URL's here. The gen archive is huge. There are also links to pages devoted to each character.
The archive is great and really well set up and easy to maneuvre in. If you're not American, there's a link at the bottom to a UK English/American English and a bit of Aussie speak, so those from other countries can see the most common terms. Not all Brit M7 writers have American beta readers to catch the different spellings, and not all Americans know (ATF universe) what the 'boot' of a car is. The alternate M7 universes are explained, and the ATF universe has taken a life of its own. I wouldn't avoid those stories just because they aren't Old West. Take a look at the different universes before you look through the archive, though. It makes it easier.

The ATF
Date: 2005-03-24 03:54 pm (UTC)It works so well because the main characters are basically the same, although translated to modern times. A lot of writers feel more comfortable writing for this universe because there's less history involved. The Seven work in the Denver office of the ATF. Government agents/Old West lawmen...it works.

Thanks for the heads up ^.^
Re: The ATF
Date: 2005-03-27 08:39 pm (UTC)Ahem...to continue. As I was saying, the fanfic is a real ghodsend these days. The only problem is that it's hard to do my physical therapy exercises while reading.

As for fanfiction, there are two sites that I favour, for other types of FanFic, that I discovered carry Magnificent 7 stories.
The first being fanfiction.net:
http://www.fanfiction.net/l/269/3/0/1/1/0/0/0/1/
And if you want a little more spice try Adult Fanfiction:

Date: 2005-03-24 08:24 pm (UTC)Welcome to the group, I think I'm the closest one to your age group (I'll be 45 in July).
I came into this Mag 7 group late. A friend sent all her copies of the show and I set down and watched them. The funny thing is I'm not a western fan, but I like Mag 7 (More into Sci-Fi. Give me Mr. Spock and I'm fine.).
I have it bad for Vin and Ezra. Not sure why those two pulled me in, but they are the two that I pick on the most(with love).
As of now, I've written a drabble called "His Town" http://www.livejournal.com/community/magnificent100/376.html#cutid1
and I can't find the other one. I know wrote a second about JD. HMMM, I shall get NCIS to look for my lost story. LOL!
